Understanding the Path

You’re already on The Path.

The Path is a description of the journey you are on with Jesus, not a program to complete. We picture it as a cross-country train ride. Jesus is the conductor and the Holy Spirit is the power. The train runs on two rails: spiritual formation and discipleship.

The Path comes in two parts, and they’re best read in order. The book was written to be worked through by two people together, a disciple-maker and the person they’re walking with, but you can also start on your own. If you haven’t found your Jesus-focused friend yet, that’s fine. Step 1 will still be there.

Part I: The Foundation

Part I builds the picture of the Christian life that Fellowship works from. It asks what it means to be like Jesus, feel like Jesus, and do like Jesus. It looks at the five domains of a whole life (spiritual, relational, emotional, intellectual, and physical) and at what discipleship really is.

Part II: Walking the Path

If Part I is the train, Part II is the terrain. It introduces the seven stages and helps you find your Home Stage, your Growth Edge, and your Regression Tendency. Part II also tells you when to take the inventory, then gives a short account of each stage so you can decide whether your result describes you. The Path is a map, not a ladder. Nothing here is a schedule, and there’s no stage you should have reached by now.
