Mission Partner Update - She is Safe, Summer 2025

Posted June 26, 2025

Your faithful partnership has made it possible for thousands of women and girls to experience freedom and safcty from abuse and slavery - I am so grateful for your compassion and investment in this work!

And I'm excited to share two important updates with you:

  • First, we've hired an experienced, dynamic Director of Development, Ellery Sadler, who is deeply committed to helping She Is Safe grow and expand. She's helping me ensure that you have a wonderful experience and are updated on the impact of your giving.
  • Second, a generous partner family has given a matching offer! Every dollar you give between now and June 30th will be doubled, up to $20,000. This will help to sustain our work through the "summer slump" months.

With this opportunity, you can help twice as many vulnerable girls like Bree gain critical support, life-changing skills and new life in Christ.

Bree grew up in an extremely volatile area of South Sudan. At 14 years old, she was abandoned when she gave birth to a baby boy. Sadly, this is a common scenario. But Bree was determined to survive and take care of her child. The violence and turmoil in South Sudan forced her to flee. So, as a teen mother, she made the difficult journey across the border into Uganda and became a refugee. You can imagine the courage it takes for a young girl like Bree to make that decision. She left behind the only home she had ever known, desperately hoping she would find a safer future on the other side of the border.

This situation left Bree extremely vulnerable to being trafficked. She had no education, business skills, or support as a young refugee mom in a strange country and could easily be exploited and sold into sexual slavery. One UN report shows that women and girls are mainly trafficked for sexual exploitation and are three times more likely to suffer extreme violence.' Bree wanted what every mother wants: safety and a future for her child. But she needed help.

Thanks to your partnership, Bree was able to join a She Is Safe Transformation Group in her area specifically for single mothers. Here, Bree has the support of a stable community even within the instability of being a refugee - and that support can make all the difference in her ability to build a strong future. She's learning the business and financial skills she needs to support herself and her son. She's also learning how to protect herself from exploitation and experiencing God's love for her through this circle of friends.

Bree is being equipped to create a safe, strong future for herself and her child. As you can imagine, I know of many more girls like her who need your help.

I know, too, that you are deeply invested in this work, and we are so grateful for your faithfulness. Will you consider giving an extra one-time gift today? As part of our match your gift will be doubled to help free and equipped more women and girls like Bree with the skills they need to create a stronger future. You are bringing the light of Christ to some of the darkest places around the world - in brothels, refugee camps, and communities known for selling girls. Thank you for changing the lives of girls like Bree!

For the Forgotten,

Michele M. Rickett, Founder and CEO

P.S. Thank you so much for your faithful partnership! Please help us reach this Match to bring girls like Bree a whole new life.
